Our good friend, Donna Silverthorn, passed away on Saturday, February 7, due to complications of lung cancer. Our condolences go out to her family and friends. For more on Donna, click HERE.

Patrick and his band have found a new home in Frederick, Maryland. Firestones is a club that has a cool vibe with great appreciation for music! We are excited to come back and perform for our new fans in Frederick!

We are back by popular demand in Madam’s Organ in Adams Morgan, D.C. We are there every other Thursday night. Please check our CALENDAR for more details. There are no girls like The Madam’s Organ Girls!

At www.gabirecords.com, ‘A Picture of the Month Page’ has been added. This will feature a different picture every month, so feel free to send pictures via e-mail or regular mail. If your picture is chosen, you’ll receive a free copy of Patrick’s latest CD, Patrick Alban and Noche Latina…so let’s get busy with the cameras. For more details click HERE.

Rumors are that Patrick and his band are starting to rehearse for their new CD, in hopes to be released at the end of this summer. The new album is going to contain 8 new songs writing by Patrick, which will have a little more of a Brazilian beat. There are plans for a remake of Bamboleo and Moliendo Café in the works as well as the song “These Dreams” written by Jim Croce. The new album will also be featuring two new songs in English. We will be keeping our fans informed!

Patrick Alban and Noche Latina keep packing the house every 1st Saturday of every month at The 13th Floor in the Belvedere Hotel, so come over and join the fun!

Do you have any suggestions for clubs or venues where you think Patrick Alban & Noche Latina could perform in? Feel free to email Patrick at Palban@mdonline.net All suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

It’s a new year and we now have Jonathan Sullivan on bass. He is a cool cat with a upright bass that rocks the Latin beat all the way, so come, meet him and make sure to say hello!

Hope to see you at the shows. God Bless you all.

NEW CD RELEASE: APRIL 2001

“Patrick Albán and Noche Latina" newest CD, is mostly Latin in style but it is in tuned with today’s music market.

The release includes many original songs but we also have many remakes that no one has done before.  The CD includes a tribute to the late John Phillips with a new original Latin version of “California Dreaming” which has a touch of Jose Feliciano’s version, but with a lot more Latin Flavor.  Juan (Cheito) Quiñones, who is a backup singer for The Great Gloria  Estefan Band, is also featured in four songs in the new CD.

Patrick is looking for a Record Company interested in this release for perhaps distribution or a record contract.  Should anyone be interested, please feel free to e-mail us. webmaster@gabirecords.com

September 2000

Jose Feliciano’s Surprise Birthday Party!!!!!

As all of you know Jose Feliciano has been my musical inspiration all through out my life.

He loves his Family, riends, and his fans, so when I had the honor to be invited to his

I couldn’t say much to anybody because it was a surprise for Jose and also because they wanted to keep it small and private. It worked! Jose was very surprised and about 100 of his friends and family attended the party.

Jose gave a concert at Carnegie Hall in New York that night and the party took place right after the concert in a restaurant call Molyvos, a block away from Carnegie Hall.

Before I tell you more about the party, I have to say that the concert was superb. Jose was as brilliant as ever and played a few  songs that I haven’t heard before. The night kept getting better, Jose had Arturo Sandoval sitting in with him through out the entire concert.  For those who don’t know  Mr. Sandoval, he is one of the best trumpet players in the planet. He also played the piano and of course timbales & percussion.  I had the chance to meet him at the party and he is a very delightful person. Jose also performed with Peter Yarrow from The Peter, Paul & Mary group. The Great Sam Moore, you may remember him from his signature song, "I’m a soul man", which buy the way they performed together with Jose on the electric guitar.

If that wasn’t enough, Jose also performed with Paul Simon. Come to think of it, one of Jose’s remarks was that  sometimes he thinks that it could have been " Simon & Feliciano"... which sounded good to me.

For more details on the concert feel free to visit Jose’s web site at: www.josefeliciano.com as a mater of fact, you should check it out!
It’s a well put together site with a lot of information on Jose’s career, news, concert dates, and a lot more....

My friends and I walked into the restaurant, (security was tight) and I must confess, I was a little nervous. I am also a performer but something happen when Linda Childs asked me to lead the singing of happy birthday to Jose. As it turn out, I didn’t have to do it. Some how the song just started on it’s own somewhere else in the restaurant, so I just followed every body.

It was a very special night for Jose, you could tell, he was very surprised. Susan, Jose’s wife, was a great hostess. We said hello, and she was very kind, and very happy to see Jose having a good time while being surrounded by people who love him.

I like to thank Linda & Joe Childs for thinking of me, and  inviting me to this special occasion.

Susan Feliciano along with Linda and Joe, made every body feel welcomed and at home. Thank you again for being such great hostesses.

In life you get to meet interesting people but being around the person who inspired me to play and perform, it’s something that I just dreamed about it back when I was 11 years old in Ecuador. So, Thank you again Jose, and Happy Birthday to you !!!

Patrick

November 1998

13th Annual Washington Area Music Awards

The Wammies!!!!

In November 17, 1998, I had the opportunity of attending the 13th Annual WAMA Music Awards. My friend Hoppy Hopkins, from the band Mambo Combo, had an extra ticket and invited me. I think his band was nominated for best Latin Band! I decided to go as I hardly ever visit Washington, and I have heard the music scene is a lot bigger and in some places better then Baltimore. I love Baltimore is my hometown but I’m always looking for new places to play and this was my chance.

We arrived at the G.W. Lisner Auditorium in Washington D.C. and I was very taken back by the black tie dress code and the presence of famous musicians, some of whom I had heard about.   Our seats where way back in the theater but good enough to see the beautiful stage, the cameras, and of course, the action.  That night, I decided that I needed it to start  looking for places to play my music in the Washington D.C. area.  Without giving it a thought, I turned to Hoppy and said " I belong in this stage, I can hang whit this cats" and then I said "Hoppy,  give me one year and I will be up in that stage."  Just to play it safe, I said, "max of two years, but I will make it."

That night was great, I got to hear some great music and on the very next day, I started to look for a "gig" in D.C.   I say just a "gig" because I am aware of how difficult it is to break in the music scene, specially in a town like Washington D.C.   Well, the rest is history, one year later I find myself playing a lot around the Washington D.C. area.

About a month ago, I was reading the D.C. City Paper and saw an article mentioning the upcoming Wammies Music Awards.   I thought to my self, well I didn’t make it this year but maybe next year, although I was somewhat disappointed about it.   An hour later, the phone rang, it was Mike Schreiboman from WAMA.   He asked me if I was interested in performing in this year's Wammies and of course, I said yes as I thought it was an honor to be able to participate in such an event.

Apparently some of the members of the WAMA committee heard me and my band play at "Madams Organ", which is my Thursday night "gig" and my home away from home in D.C.   About a week a go the phone rang and once again it was Mike Schreiboman but this time he was notifying me that I had been nominated in two categories; for best Latin vocalist of the year, and for best Latin duo of the year.   I still can't believe it and regardless if I win or not, it makes me so happy that people like my music and that they are talking about it.   Very soon I will be going in the studio to work on my new album, and I can't wait to do what I like doing best and that is... performing for my audience.

God Bless

Patrick
